ICE Officer Detained in Texas Following Minneapolis Immigration Raid Shooting
A federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent was taken into custody in Texas after being implicated in the shooting of a Venezuelan immigrant during a controversial immigration enforcement operation in Minnesota.
Arrest Details and Legal allegations
Christian Castro, 52 years old, was apprehended last Friday after Minnesota law enforcement officials, aided by the Texas Rangers and the Department of homeland Security’s Office of Inspector General, tracked him down. he is currently facing several charges including four counts of second-degree assault and one count related to submitting a false police report.
The charges stem from an incident on January 14 during Operation Metro Surge. Castro allegedly discharged his firearm through the front door of a residence, striking Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis in the leg. The bullet reportedly penetrated the door before embedding itself into a wall inside a child’s bedroom.
Operation Metro Surge: A Controversial Federal initiative
Operation Metro Surge began in December 2025 across Minneapolis-St Paul as part of what DHS described as its largest immigration enforcement effort ever conducted within U.S. borders. Hundreds of federal agents participated with an aim to target undocumented immigrants involved in criminal activities.
The operation quickly became highly contentious due to aggressive tactics that resulted not only in non-fatal shootings but also two fatal encounters involving U.S. citizens-Renee good on January 7 and Alex Pretti on January 24. These incidents have ignited intense public debate about accountability and oversight within federal law enforcement agencies.
Disputed Narratives and Ongoing Legal Proceedings
Initial official reports claimed that Sosa-Celis and another individual had attacked ICE officers; however,subsequent video footage contradicted these statements. As a result, prosecutors dismissed all charges against both Sosa-Celis and his housemate Alfredo Aljorna. The Department of Homeland Security acknowledged that some officers provided inaccurate information regarding the shooting event.
“Providing false testimony under oath constitutes a serious violation at the federal level,” commented Todd Lyons, former ICE director, referencing an active federal investigation into these matters.
Minnesota authorities have stressed that justice applies equally irrespective of rank or agency affiliation. Attorney General Keith ellison affirmed this principle by stating no individual is above legal duty-not even federal agents-and welcomed Castro’s arrest as part of ongoing efforts to hold officials accountable for alleged misconduct.
