This year, Karnataka’s commercial court received a petition from Anthropic Software claiming continuous use of the “Anthropic” brand as 2017. The firm argues that the U.S.-based AI company’s recent market entry has led to notable customer confusion and seeks official recognition of its trademark rights along with damages totaling ₹10 million (~$110,000).
“Our intention is clarity rather than conflict,” said Mohammad Ayyaz Mulla, founder and director of Anthropic Software. “We aim for peaceful coexistence but are prepared to pursue legal action if customer confusion persists.”
Court Developments and Current Proceedings
The Karnataka commercial court issued summons against Anthropic on January 20 but declined immediate injunction relief. The case is slated for further hearings on February 16.To date, no public comments have been made by Anthropic regarding this litigation.
