Saskatchewan Athletes Prepare for Their First-Ever Grey Cup Showdown
Two remarkable talents hailing from Saskatchewan are set to make their debut on the grand stage of the Grey Cup,ready to demonstrate their skills in this prestigious championship.
Local Legends: Jorgen hus and Logan Ferland Carry Saskatchewan’s Pride

A Homegrown football Journey fueled by Determination
While the Saskatchewan Roughriders last competed in the Grey Cup, Jorgen hus was exploring opportunities within the NFL. During that period, he closely followed his hometown team’s progress and cheered enthusiastically for his former teammates.
“Growing up in Saskatoon, I was always one of the loudest fans,” Hus reflected before stepping onto the field for his first championship game. “This moment is a dream realized from my earliest days playing football.”
This season marked a important milestone as Hus surpassed 150 games played in the CFL. His football foundation was built through local programs such as the saskatoon Hilltops and later with University of Regina Rams.
“Wearing your province’s colors brings immense pride,” he added. “After years of near misses,reaching this point makes it all even more special.”
The Path Back: Choosing Saskatchewan Over NFL Dreams
Originally drafted by Edmonton in 2013, Hus returned to play for Saskatchewan two years later via trade. He described this move as a purposeful decision after stepping away from pursuing an NFL career.
“My goal was simple – to don this jersey,” he said emphatically. “Joining this team felt like completing a full circle journey.”
A Distinctive Team Culture Ignites this Season’s Success
The current Roughriders roster stands out compared to previous years according to Hus:
“I’ve never enjoyed coming into work more than I do now,”
“the bond here is amazing; everyone genuinely supports each other on and off the field.”
This strong sense of unity propels them forward as they prepare for Sunday’s championship battle at Winnipeg’s IG Field stadium where nearly twenty family members will be cheering live among thousands of fans.
Melfort-Born Logan Ferland’s Ascent To The Championship spotlight
Joining Hus is fellow Saskatchewan native Logan Ferland who began playing football at sixteen in Melfort-a small community where past provincial victories during previous Grey Cups sparked excitement but not immediate professional aspirations.
“We didn’t watch much football growing up but always tuned into our team during big games,”
“Now having my family witness me compete here feels surreal yet keeps me grounded.”
An essential member of the Roughriders’ offensive line since his debut in 2021, ferland has showcased adaptability across multiple line positions but currently anchors at center following recent training camp adjustments.
Navigating Challenges Together Toward Championship Glory
- “We’ve remained united through every challenge,” said Ferland;
- “Our journey isn’t over – there’s still work ahead before we can celebrate fully.”
CFL Players Making Lasting Community contributions Beyond The Game
The impact these athletes have extends well beyond their on-field performances; both have been recognized for meaningful community involvement throughout Saskatchewan:
- Jorgen Hus: awarded with a leadership honour reflecting Canadian Armed Forces values;
- Logan Ferland:, acknowledged largely due to advocacy supporting children’s healthcare initiatives including Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital & Ronald McDonald House programs;
A Story Of strength And Encouragement Through Youth Outreach By Ferland
“Opening up about losing my father Marcel to cancer helps motivate young people facing tough times,”
