Defense Startup Shield AI Skyrockets to $12.7B Valuation with Explosive 140% Jump After Major US Air Force Contract

Shield AI Raises $1.5 billion in Series G, Achieving a $12.7 Billion Valuation

Autonomous military drone innovator Shield AI has secured an impressive $1.5 billion in its latest series G funding round, elevating its market valuation to an outstanding $12.7 billion. This substantial capital influx was lead by private equity giant Advent, which recently unveiled a dedicated $1 billion fund aimed at defense technology ventures, with additional backing from an investment group affiliated with JPMorgan Chase.

Expanding financial Resources and Strategic Acquisitions

Beyond the primary fundraising event, shield AI also raised another $500 million through preferred shares sold to funds managed by Blackstone and gained access to a $250 million credit line for future strategic initiatives. these funds are earmarked for acquiring Aechelon Technology, a firm specializing in cutting-edge flight simulation systems used for training U.S. military pilots; though, the financial details of this acquisition remain undisclosed.

Accelerated Valuation Growth Driven by Key Contracts

This recent capital raise follows shield AI’s March 2025 financing round where it garnered $240 million at a valuation near $5.3 billion-reflecting an extraordinary 140% increase within just twelve months. The rapid growth is largely fueled by the U.S. Air Force’s adoption of Shield’s Hivemind autonomy software as part of its Collaborative Combat Aircraft drone prototype program launched earlier this year.

A Dual-Software Strategy Enhances Military Drone Capabilities

A notable advancement is that Shield AI’s Hivemind system will operate alongside competitor Anduril’s Lattice software on the Air Force’s “fury” autonomous fighter jet platform. This co-deployment underscores the military’s intentional approach to mitigate risks associated with reliance on any single vendor across its next-generation unmanned aerial vehicle fleet.

The Competitive Arena: Anduril’s Expansive Growth Trajectory

Even though sharing contracts with Shield AI may present challenges for Anduril, the company remains financially formidable after raising approximately $2.5 billion last june at a valuation surpassing $30 billion and reportedly planning an additional funding round targeting up to $8 billion-potentially pushing its valuation close to $60 billion.
