Jm Jungle Surprises with Stunning Win in King George Qatar Stakes at Goodwood
In an unexpected twist at the King George Qatar Stakes, Jm Jungle showcased a remarkable performance that caught many off guard. The five-furlong sprint featured a strong field of 12 contenders, with John and Sean Quinn’s skilled handicapper entering as a 14-1 outsider making his first appearance at Group-race level.
Guided expertly by jockey Jason hart, the five-year-old burst out of the gate swiftly and secured a prominent position along the far side rail. Exhibiting grit and tenacity, Jm Jungle fended off late surges from rivals to clinch victory by just a neck.
Close behind was She’s Quality, who notched her fourth straight second-place finish, while Commonwealth Cup champion Time For Sandals finished half a length back in third place.
A Calculated Triumph for Team Quinn
this win marked john Quinn’s second success in this esteemed event following Highfield Princess’s triumph two years earlier. Sean Quinn shared insights into their strategy: “We evaluated this year’s sprint division and felt it wasn’t as deep as usual, so we decided to enter Jm Jungle.”
He elaborated on their approach: “We knew he excels on downhill tracks like Epsom where he previously won the Dash on Derby day. Today’s ground conditions likely posed more difficulty for others than for him.”
Sean added, “Although Jm Jungle prefers firm ground, he adapts well. He gives his all every time out and has matured physically this season. Watching him pre-race showed his professionalism-he looked like an experienced campaigner.”
Aiming Higher: Group One Aspirations Ahead
The next target is closer to home-the Coolmore Wootton Bassett Nunthorpe Stakes on august 22nd-a Group One race also won last year by highfield Princess.
“Jason mentioned early in the season how much he’d enjoy riding him there because of its fast pace and how well Jm Jungle handles York,” said Sean Quinn.
“Now that he’s secured a group Two win, moving up makes perfect sense. We’ve also entered races like the Prix de l’Abbaye which suit his speed; he tends to be prominent from early stages.” Reflecting further Sean noted: “Watching Highfield Princess dominate was easier as she never looked beaten; today I hoped we’d hold on right up until the line-and we did.”

rhoscolyn Extends Dominance with Coral Golden Mile Victory at Glorious Goodwood
The seasoned seven-year-old Rhoscolyn continued his extraordinary form at Goodwood by capturing another prestigious prize-the Coral Golden mile-under Daniel Tudhope’s expert ride.
Sitting perfectly positioned throughout most of the race, Rhoscolyn unleashed an electrifying finishing kick inside the final furlong to cross one length ahead of runner-up Ebt’s Guard.

this marked Rhoscolyn’s sixth career triumph over this course and gave trainer David O’Meara his third win in this event since 2020. Despite an unremarkable run earlier during Wednesday’s meeting, Rhoscolyn bounced back impressively here as an 11-2 favorite.
A trainer Reflects on conditions and Future Plans Amid Challenges
“The timely rainfall made all difference; without it we might not have run him,” explained O’Meara.
“His previous outing didn’t take much out of him.”
“Luck played its part again with gaps opening when needed.”
“Looking forward there are lucrative handicaps over seven furlongs or one mile here worth around £100k where he’ll be aimed next.”
Seagulls Eleven Claims Key Victory in Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes at Goodwood
The promising three-year-old Seagulls eleven finally lived up to expectations with an authoritative success in Goodwood’s Bonhams Thoroughbred stakes under Hugo Palmer’s training guidance.

Sired by Galileo gold-Palmer’s own former classic winner-the colt boasts ownership links including current and former Brighton & Hove albion footballers such as James Milner and Danny Welbeck. After breaking maiden status last summer at Haydock Park followed by credible juvenile stakes performances including finishes in superlative Stakes and Dewhurst Stakes races, Seagulls Eleven returned strongly recently placing second behind Opera Ballo over Newmarket Listed company three weeks ago.
- The absence of Opera Ballo elevated Seagulls Eleven among just four runners lining up for this Group Three contest.
- Taking command early under jockey Oisin Murphy,
the colt maintained composure despite late pressure,
winning comfortably by three-quarters length from Diego Ventura.
An Exciting Path Forward With Global Ambitions and Tactical InsightsÂ
“He can be tricky during saddling but has genuine versatility,” Palmer noted.
“He competed admirably against top-level competition last year but regaining confidence took time.”
“This race showed real courage when challenged down stretch.”
“He has been invited to Australia’s lucrative Golden Eagle race offering $10 million prize money which presents exciting prospects.” Palmer added they may consider supplementing entries domestically such as Party Mile if necessary.”
Diverse Perspectives from Connections Of Rival Contenders
- Diego Ventura: Owned by Wathnan Racing whose adviser Richard Brown commented:
“This might have been Diego Ventura’s best effort yet despite losing some momentum near finish due to slight rail drift from rival.” They plan discussions about possibly stepping up distance given strong closing ability. - King Of Cities: Trained by Richard Hannon who expressed mild disappointment:
“Ryan Moore felt horse could have benefited if pace quickened sooner though overall gallop seemed adequate.” He believes bigger targets remain but noted occasional lacklustre bursts during races. - Cosmic Year: Irish 2000 Guineas runner-up finished last among four starters according to Colin Keane:
“Ground conditions probably worked against us today even though horse traveled well initially.” Keane suggested returning over shorter trips or firmer going might better suit future runs given stamina concerns observed here.”
