Israel Taps Nickolay Mladenov to Spearhead Trump’s Bold Gaza ‘Peace Board’ Initiative

Nickolay Mladenov Takes Charge of US-Supported Peace Effort in Gaza

Bulgarian diplomat Nickolay Mladenov has been appointed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to lead a newly established “board of peace” focused on stabilizing the Gaza Strip. This decision was announced after a strategic meeting in Jerusalem, where mladenov-formerly the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process-was named director-general of this pivotal initiative.

Introducing a Thorough Plan for Gaza’s Stability

the “board of peace” forms a key component within US President Donald Trump’s expansive 20-point agenda aimed at resolving ongoing conflicts adn humanitarian challenges in Gaza. The framework includes forming a technocratic Palestinian governance, overseeing the disarmament of Hamas militants, deploying an international security force, coordinating phased Israeli military withdrawals, and leading reconstruction projects throughout the war-torn region.

Despite an official ceasefire brokered last October between Israel and Hamas, sporadic violence continues to disrupt fragile calm. Recent figures from Gaza’s Health Ministry report over 425 Palestinian casualties linked to Israeli military operations as of October 11,2025-underscoring how tenuous peace remains on the ground.

A Global Coalition for Lasting Peace

The United States is expected to soon announce further appointments to this governing board.Key participants are projected to include influential European nations such as the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Italy alongside prominent Middle Eastern countries like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey. This diverse alliance aims to ensure balanced oversight while fostering enduring stability across Gaza.

Mladenov’s Extensive Diplomatic Background Fuels Confidence

With experience serving as Bulgaria’s defense minister and foreign affairs head-as well as his prior role as UN envoy for Iraq-Mladenov brings notable diplomatic acumen. From 2015 through 2020 he acted as UN Special Coordinator for Middle East peace efforts where he cultivated productive relationships with both Israeli leaders and Palestinian authorities while persistently working toward de-escalation between Israel and Hamas factions.

Strong Endorsement from Israeli leadership

Mladenov’s leadership role has been formally endorsed not only by Prime Minister Netanyahu but also by Israel’s President Isaac Herzog during separate meetings held recently. Although specific details about Herzog’s discussions remain confidential, these interactions highlight robust governmental backing within Israel for this new peace mechanism.
