Jersey Mike’s Subs Launches Enterprising Expansion into Europe
Introducing Genuine Deli-Style Sandwiches to the U.K. and Ireland
For the first time, Jersey Mike’s Subs is bringing its celebrated sandwich offerings to European customers, marking a pivotal step in the brand’s international growth plan. The initial phase targets establishing 400 outlets throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland, led by founder and board chair Peter Cancro via his company JM Submarines UK LTD.
Experienced Leadership Drives Strategic Global Growth
Following a recent acquisition valued near $8 billion, Jersey Mike’s leverages decades of domestic success as it ventures overseas. CEO Charlie Morrison highlighted that today’s global consumers increasingly demand not only affordability but also authentic quality-core values that have defined Jersey Mike’s since its founding.
“Freshness and authenticity are what customers around the world seek,” Morrison stated. “Our brand stands for thes principles, which we believe will strongly connect with audiences beyond America.”
The Rising Popularity of deli-Style Subs Worldwide
Morrison pointed out that deli-style sandwiches are gaining traction internationally as consumer preferences shift toward fresh, made-to-order meals. With an impressive record of 20 consecutive years of positive same-store sales growth in the U.S., he expressed confidence this momentum will carry over successfully into new markets.
A Proven Track Record in International Market Expansion
Morrison brings valuable insights from his previous role as CEO at Wingstop untill 2022-a period marked by rapid overseas expansion despite pandemic-related challenges impacting sales and stock performance. He emphasized that preserving core brand identity while making thoughtful local adaptations has been essential for thriving globally.
Maintaining Core Identity While Embracing Local Tastes
Cancro founded Jersey mike’s in 1975 after purchasing his first store in Point Pleasant, New Jersey. Having led the company for nearly fifty years before handing over leadership to Morrison in April 2025, Cancro remains actively involved through JM Submarines UK LTD.
he acknowledged that although some regional tweaks-such as unique toppings or sauces-may be introduced abroad, the essential qualities defining Jersey Mike’s sandwiches will remain unchanged.
“Europe presents a vibrant sandwich market with many competitors,” Cancro remarked. “We see important opportunity here for our authentic offerings.”
Navigating Consumer Preferences Amid Economic Changes
The current economic habitat shows American shoppers becoming more budget-conscious; however, Morrison believes this does not reduce demand for premium products like those offered by Jersey Mike’s.
“While value options face industry-wide pressures,” Morrison noted, “our crave-worthy sandwiches continue attracting loyal customers who prioritize flavor and quality.”
A Commitment to Lasting Growth Rooted in Authenticity
This European expansion embodies a broader vision where genuine culinary experiences meet evolving global tastes without sacrificing freshness or flavor integrity-principles central to Jersey Mike’s identity since its inception nearly five decades ago.
