After days of intense nationwide protests and violent confrontations resulting in numerous casualties, Nepal’s government has officially rescinded its recent ban on social media platforms. This reversal was confirmed by the Minister of Communications and Facts Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung.
Revocation of Digital platform Restrictions
On Tuesday morning, minister Gurung announced the restoration of access to previously blocked social media services. “The suspension on social media platforms has been lifted; users can now freely access these sites,” he declared.
The initial prohibition affected 26 digital applications including whatsapp,Facebook,Instagram,LinkedIn,and YouTube. Authorities had imposed these measures intending to limit misinformation spread, fraudulent activities, and hate speech amid rising political tensions.
