The current showdown unfolds during Governor Greg Abbott’s special legislative session called not only for revising electoral maps but also addressing catastrophic flooding in Texas Hill country earlier this year-a disaster responsible for over 135 fatalities and widespread damage.

The push for new district boundaries aligns closely with former President Donald Trump’s efforts to reclaim control of the House after losing it early in his first term-a loss that stalled much of his management’s agenda. The proposed map would create five additional Republican-leaning districts out of Texas’ total 38 seats; currently, GOP holds 25 seats statewide.
