Deadly Assault: Three Journalists Killed in Israeli Attack on Marked Press Vehicle in Lebanon

Fatal Airstrike Claims lives of Journalists in Southern Lebanon Amid Rising Conflict

In a tragic incident, an israeli airstrike struck a clearly identified press vehicle in southern Lebanon, resulting in the deaths of three Lebanese journalists. Several other media workers were wounded, and a paramedic who rushed to assist was also killed during the attack.

Chronicle of the Deadly Incident

The victims included Fatima ftouni and her brother Mohammed from Al Mayadeen, alongside Ali Shuaib representing Al-Manar. Their car was hit by four precision-guided missiles on jezzine Road. Emergency medical teams arriving at the scene were subjected to gunfire, leading to the death of one paramedic as well.

Both Al Mayadeen and Al-Manar have officially confirmed these grievous losses among their personnel.

Disputed Allegations Against Journalists Involved

The Israeli military acknowledged responsibility for the strike but defended it by accusing Ali Shuaib of collaborating with Hezbollah intelligence units and surveilling Israeli military movements. They further claimed he was involved in spreading Hezbollah propaganda. These assertions have been categorically denied by both news organizations.

This event adds to Israel’s contentious record: since 2025 alone, over 270 journalists have lost their lives amid operations across Gaza and neighboring areas-more than any other nation recorded by global press freedom monitors.

A Tribute to Valiant Journalism

Al-Manar honored Ali Shuaib as one of its most seasoned war correspondents who had extensively reported on decades-long conflicts between Israel and Lebanon. His unwavering commitment highlighted the immense dangers faced daily by reporters covering active war zones.

Strong Official Reproach Over violations Against Media Personnel

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned this attack as a blatant violation of international humanitarian law that protects civilians performing journalistic duties during armed conflict. He described it as “a gross crime breaching all established safeguards for journalists.” Prime minister Nawaf Salam echoed these sentiments, condemning it as a severe infringement on universally recognized humanitarian principles.

The Determination among Remaining Reporters

From Tire in southern Lebanon, correspondent Obaida Hitto shared that local journalists remain resolute despite escalating threats: “Everyone I’ve spoken with insists they are simply carrying out their journalistic responsibilities even under constant danger.”

An Escalating Toll on Media Workers Amid Intensified Hostilities

This latest tragedy is part of an alarming trend impacting Lebanese media outlets such as Al Mayadeen wich has lost six reporters as hostilities surged earlier this year-including Farah Omar, Rabih Me’mari, Ghassan Najjar, and Mohammad Reda-all casualties from previous strikes.

The personal toll is profound; Fatima Ftouni had recently delivered live reports about her uncle’s family being killed during an earlier Israeli strike before losing her own life days later herself.

Civilian Casualties Rise Sharply As Regional Conflict Expands

  • The Lebanese Ministry of health reports more than 1,140 fatalities along with upwards of 3,300 injuries due to ongoing Israeli attacks since early March amid widening regional tensions now entering their second month.
  • Israeli ground forces continue pushing southward toward strategic points like the Litani River while Hezbollah claims multiple counterattacks against invading troops within recent hours.
  • An air raid near Deir al-zahrani resulted in at least one Lebanese soldier’s death according to national sources reporting persistent bombardments across southern zones deemed unsafe for civilians or non-combatants alike.

Civilians Defying Evacuation Orders Face Heightened Risks

“Nearly twenty percent of residents south of Litani River refuse evacuation orders despite mounting dangers,” said Hitto describing how remaining behind has become “an extremely perilous gamble.”

A Worldwide Crisis Threatening Press Freedom Under fire

This incident highlights troubling global trends: In 2025-the deadliest year ever recorded-129 journalists were killed worldwide according to autonomous watchdogs. Alarmingly two-thirds were linked directly or indirectly to actions taken by israel during its military campaigns-a grim statistic unmatched historically anywhere else regarding journalist casualties caused by state actors or armed groups alike.

Broadening Scope Of Attacks Beyond Frontline Zones

An additional assault earlier this month took Mohammad Sherri-the political programs director at Al-Manar-in central Beirut’s heartland underscoring that threats extend beyond frontline battlefields into urban centers where media professionals operate under constant peril.
