Men’s Race Launches in Scotland Before Heading South
The men’s race is scheduled to begin on July 2 in Edinburgh, with an opening stage that winds through Midlothian and the scenic Scottish Borders, culminating near Carlisle’s iconic medieval castle. The following day features a challenging course starting from Keswick within England’s renowned Lake District National Park, finishing along Liverpool’s bustling waterfront at The strand.
On July 4, competitors will enter Wales for the third stage. Beginning in welshpool (Powys),riders will face steep ascents such as Côte de Rhigos and Côte de Caerffili while traversing southern Welsh valleys before concluding in Cardiff.
A Historic First: Both Grand Départs Outside France in One Country
This event marks a groundbreaking moment as both men’s and women’s Grand Départs-the official race starts-will take place within the same nation outside of France for the first time ever.Britain has previously proven its passion for hosting this prestigious cycling event with memorable welcomes during earlier editions.

“The UK consistently demonstrates immense enthusiasm for the Tour,” stated Christian Prudhomme, race director. “This route showcases Britain’s diverse terrain-from rugged highlands to vibrant urban centers-and reflects our strong partnership with British Cycling.”
Past UK starts have attracted enormous crowds: Yorkshire energized northern England during its celebrated launch in 2014 while London hosted an eager welcome back in 2007.
Women Cyclists Embark on Iconic Northern Routes Ending in London
The women commence their journey on July 30 at Leeds Civic Hall before heading westward across the Pennines toward Manchester. On day two, they confront formidable climbs including Snake Pass while passing through Peak District National Park en route to Sheffield.

The british segment concludes with a remarkable final stage across London on August 1. Marion Rousse, director of the women’s tour emphasized that launching at Leeds pays tribute to cycling heritage while invigorating fans who cherish this sport’s rich history. She highlighted that these routes are designed not only for fierce competition but also to inspire future generations by promoting women’s cycling worldwide.

Tadej Pogačar clinched his fourth overall title last year after beginning his campaign in Lille-a city deeply rooted in cycling tradition-while Pauline Ferrand-Prévôt earned her inaugural victory during that inaugural women’s edition.
