The program anticipates reaching over 630,000 youth and families by 2027 through new offerings at more than 570 schools nationwide. it also plans upgrades on over 160 courts alongside recruiting upwards of 2,000 coaches dedicated to fostering talent across diverse communities.

A notable success story is WTA player Hailey Baptiste-a JTCC alumna-and her coach Franklin tiafoe (Frances’ twin brother), exemplifying how NJTL programs open doors for athletes from varied backgrounds.

“Ninety-one percent of participants enhance social-emotional skills; ninety-nine percent progress academically on time; ninety-one percent graduate high school-all outperforming peers facing similar economic hardships,” Ehrlich shared regarding NJTL outcomes.

The current political climate surrounding diversity initiatives contrasts sharply with Arthur Ashe Jr.’s groundbreaking efforts decades ago when he co-founded National Junior Tennis & Learning (NJTL) alongside Charlie Pasarell and Sheridan Snyder during segregation-era America-long before diversity became politicized discourse.

Mackenzi Stewart-the director of Atlanta’s L.E.A.D program-stresses how crucial it remains today for underrepresented youth especially girls-to see coaches reflecting their identities while receiving mentorship beyond athletic instruction:

“Coaches guide our players not just on court but through life transitions-from childhood into adulthood-becoming part of their extended support network,” Stewart explained.
