Cinemark Elevates Movie Magic with 20 Exciting New ScreenX Locations!

ScreenX Transforms Movie Theaters with immersive 270-Degree Visuals

ScreenX introduces a groundbreaking multi-projection system that expands the traditional movie screen into a panoramic 270-degree display, surrounding viewers with an engaging and immersive cinematic environment.

Cinemark Drives ScreenX Growth Across North and Latin America

With blockbuster films featuring magical realms and fantastical creatures on the horizon, Cinemark is preparing for increased attendance by substantially broadening its premium ScreenX auditorium footprint throughout the United States and Latin American countries.

the U.S.’s third-largest cinema chain announced plans to add 20 new ScreenX theaters, strengthening its partnership with South Korea’s CJ 4DPlex. Of these new locations, eighteen will be launched within the U.S., while two mark ScreenX’s debut in Latin America.

How ScreenX Elevates Traditional Film Viewing

This cutting-edge format projects visuals not only on the main front screen but also onto adjacent side walls-known as wings-creating an expansive 270-degree viewing experience that fully immerses audiences in every scene. Currently, Cinemark operates six such venues domestically and aims to open six additional theaters before year-end.

Expansion Timed to Coincide with Major Film Releases

“Our goal has been to ensure widespread theater availability ahead of landmark titles like ‘Wicked: For Good’ and ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash,’ which continue to set industry standards,” stated Don Savant, CEO of CJ 4DPlex Americas.

The collaboration began as a pilot program featuring six theaters in 2022; however, growth was temporarily hindered by industry-wide disruptions such as writers’ and actors’ strikes until steady content production resumed.

The Shift Toward Premium Large Format Screens post-Pandemic

Cinemark’s investment reflects a broader trend where cinemas are upgrading their venues after pandemic-related closures by focusing on premium large format (PLF) screens. These enhancements include superior image quality, advanced audio systems, and more cozy seating arrangements designed to justify higher ticket prices while attracting patrons seeking experiences beyond home streaming options.

In addition to ScreenX technology, CJ 4DPlex operates 4DX theaters, which feature motion-enabled seats combined with environmental effects like wind gusts, scents, and vibrations-offering multisensory immersion that heightens audience engagement.

The Growing Demand for Premium Cinema Experiences

  • Savant highlighted their mission “to deliver unique cinematic experiences that cannot be replicated through at-home entertainment or streaming services.”
  • While PLF screenings currently represent a smaller portion of total box office revenue nationwide, this segment is rapidly expanding as consumers increasingly opt for enhanced viewing environments despite economic pressures.
  • This year alone has seen premium tickets account for roughly 22% of domestic box office sales according to recent market analysis from EntTelligence.
  • The average adult ticket price at PLF venues reached $17.61, nearly one dollar higher than late-2024 figures-demonstrating sustained demand amid inflationary challenges affecting entertainment spending habits.

A New Chapter in Theatrical Storytelling

The adoption of technologies like ScreenX marks an evolution in film presentation by transforming passive viewing into dynamic sensory adventures that engage audiences from multiple perspectives together. This innovation not only reinvigorates interest among dedicated moviegoers but also strengthens cinemas’ competitive edge against digital platforms amid shifting global consumer preferences toward experiential entertainment.
