RSM Classic Opens with Exciting Leaders After Round One
The PGA Tour’s season finale, the RSM Classic in Georgia, kicked off with an electrifying start as Davis Thompson, Rico Hoey, and Doug Ghim all shared the lead at 10 under par. Each golfer showcased impressive skills on different courses featured in this unique event.
Remarkable Scores Across Two Distinct Courses
Davis Thompson and Rico Hoey both carded outstanding rounds of 62 on the plantation Course, while Doug Ghim impressed with a sizzling 60 on the Seaside Course. their performances placed them just one stroke ahead of fellow Americans Andrew Putnam and Andrew Novak, who each posted strong 61s on Seaside.
Ghim’s Late birdie Streak Sparks Momentum
Doug Ghim thrilled fans by sinking four consecutive birdies late in his round, including two from over 15 feet away. Even though he narrowly missed a long birdie putt on the final hole, his surge has considerably boosted his chances to improve from his current position at 125th in this year’s FedEx Cup Fall standings.

“I feel like I’m halfway there,” Ghim reflected after completing his round. “Right now, I’m just glad to be competing near the top.” While uncertain about exactly what finish is needed to crack the top 100 cutoff for next season’s tour card retention,he believes that landing inside the top three would almost guarantee it. “Finishing third here feels nearly as challenging as winning outright,” he added. “My goal is steady play and capitalizing on every opportunity.”
The Battle for Next Year’s PGA tour Card Intensifies
This $7 million tournament serves as a pivotal moment marking the end of this PGA Tour season. Only those finishing within the top 100 will earn their tour cards for 2026. While Davis Thompson and Philippines’ Rico Hoey have already secured their spots through consistent performance throughout this year, others like Doug Ghim are locked in fierce competition to maintain their status.
Ireland’s Seamus Power Emerges Among Leading Contenders
Ireland’s Seamus Power also made waves with an impressive six-under-par round of 64 on Seaside Course as he fights to retain full playing privileges next year amid tight competition.
Tournament Structure: Mastering Two Challenging Venues
The initial two rounds require players to tackle both Plantation and Seaside courses before Friday’s cut determines who advances into weekend play. The final rounds take place exclusively at Seaside-a course renowned for its coastal winds and strategic demands-testing players’ accuracy and mental toughness under pressure-filled conditions.
