It works like a secure “digital handshake” between devices: when someone saved in your contacts calls you thru Phone by Google, their device transmits an invisible authentication signal confirming the legitimacy of the call source.

If an attacker tries to impersonate your contact without this verification token, your phone detects the inconsistency instantly. It then discreetly queries the actual device belonging to that contact for confirmation. If no outgoing call is detected on their end at that moment,your screen will display a warning advising you not to answer or suggesting immediate disconnection.
