Last year alone, nearly 9,000 positions were eliminated-accounting for close to 4% of its worldwide employee base.

By mid-2026, Microsoft’s U.S.-based workforce numbers approximately 125,000 employees. The voluntary retirement plan could influence about 7% of this group-roughly translating into around 8,750 individuals who might choose early retirement under these terms.
