Rocket Lab Lands $816 Million Contract to Enhance Satellite Defense Systems

Rocket Lab has achieved a major breakthrough by securing its largest contract to date, valued at $816 million, awarded by the U.S. Space Growth Agency (SDA). This deal signifies the company’s evolution from primarily a rocket manufacturer into a pivotal contributor in advanced satellite defense technology.

Creating Advanced Satellites for Missile Detection and Tracking

Under this agreement, Rocket Lab USA-a subsidiary of Rocket lab-is responsible for designing and producing 18 state-of-the-art satellites. These spacecraft will be equipped with complex sensors tailored to detect,track,and support missile defense operations as part of SDA’s Tracking Layer Tranche 3 program.

Strengthening Secure Military Communications in Orbit

This recent contract complements an earlier $515 million award given to Rocket Lab for its role in the Transport Layer-Beta Tranche 2 initiative. That project focuses on deploying a resilient low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite network that ensures encrypted data transmission with ultra-low latency for military communications worldwide.
