EtherealX Pioneers a New Era in India’s Space Launch Sector

Major Capital Injection Accelerates Reusable Rocket Innovation

ethereal Exploration Guild, known as EtherealX, is an emerging Indian aerospace startup dedicated to developing a fully reusable medium-lift launch vehicle. The company is on the verge of closing a funding round expected to bring in around $21 million. This round is co-led by TDK Ventures and Vietnam-based BIG Capital, with participation from Accel.

Initially aiming for $15 million in Series A funding, investor enthusiasm has pushed the total closer to $20.5 million. This follows their successful seed round of $5 million secured in August 2024.

Robust Market Demand and strategic Contracts

EtherealX has already inked contracts worth approximately $130 million across six clients, demonstrating strong early market traction for its launch services. These deals underscore growing trust in EtherealX’s technology within the competitive commercial spaceflight arena.

The Razor Crest Mk-1: A Game-Changer Rocket

Established in 2022 by Manu J. Nair alongside former ISRO scientist Shubhayu Sardar (COO) and aerospace engineer Prashant Sharma (CTO), EtherealX is crafting the Razor Crest Mk-1 rocket-a fully reusable medium-lift vehicle capable of delivering payloads up to eight tonnes into low Earth orbit (LEO). Beyond LEO missions, it will support geostationary transfer orbits and trans-lunar trajectories.

This Bengaluru-based venture aims not only to rival global leaders like SpaceX but also to alleviate worldwide launch capacity shortages by providing more affordable alternatives. Their inaugural flight could take place as soon as 2027.

Innovative Pricing Model Designed for Market disruption

Nair has revealed that EtherealX intends to price launches between $350 and $2,000 per kilogram, considerably undercutting SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rates which generally range from $1,600 to $2,000 per kilogram. At these competitive prices, they anticipate capturing roughly 30%-40% of their targeted segment upon market entry.

India’s Unique Geographical Advantage Boosting Global launch Competitiveness

The country benefits from an exceptional geographic position coupled with supportive regulatory policies that allow access to multiple orbital inclinations from a single launch site-an advantage few nations enjoy globally. India’s rapidly expanding space ecosystem continues attracting international capital seeking alternatives beyond traditional markets such as the U.S., Europe, and China.

Expanding Infrastructure & Technological Milestones Achieved

  • A newly acquired 16-acre facility located in Tamil Nadu is set for operational readiness early next year.
  • EtherealX is making steady progress on key components including a liquid oxygen turbopump assembly critical for its upper-stage engine Pegasus 2.0-marking vital strides toward full system integration.

The Growing Impact of india’s Commercial Space Ambitions

The Indian government envisions ample growth within its commercial space sector over the next decade-aiming to increase its share from under 2% today up toward an estimated 8%-10% of the global market. Forecasts suggest this expansion could help establish a thriving $40 billion-$45 billion space economy within eight-to-ten years, largely driven by private innovators like EtherealX pushing technological boundaries and fostering competitiveness worldwide.

“Our pricing strategy combined with cutting-edge technology positions us not just for survival but significant leadership,” stated Nair during discussions about their market approach.”

A Rising Force Among Indian aerospace Innovators on the Global Stage

This momentum reflects broader trends where startups across India are becoming vital players shaping future aerospace developments through advanced technologies supported by strategic investments from both domestic and international venture capital firms alike.
