YouTube Create enters a fiercely competitive market dominated by ByteDance’s CapCut and InShot.Sensor Tower data from Q2 2024 highlights CapCut’s dominance with approximately 66 million downloads on Android alone during this period and an extraordinary 442 million monthly active users (MAUs). InShot trails behind with about 21 million downloads and 92 million maus. Meanwhile, YouTube Create has recorded fewer than 500,000 downloads this quarter, totaling roughly 4 million since its inception, alongside under one million monthly active users.

User Engagement Metrics Reveal Significant Gaps

The disparity in user engagement between these platforms is notable. On average, CapCut users spend around 62 minutes per month within the app across nearly 23 sessions; conversely, YouTube Create users engage for about 38 minutes over approximately 11 sessions monthly.Retention rates further underscore challenges: only about 1% of new YouTube Create users remain active after three months compared to CapCut’s stronger retention rate near 7%.
