Calgary Junior High Abuse Case Resolves with $15 Million Settlement
A notable class-action lawsuit involving former students of a Calgary junior high school has reached a resolution through a $15 million settlement. The case revolved around allegations of abuse by two ex-teachers at John ware School, with incidents reported from the late 1980s up to the early 2000s.
Details of allegations and Accused Educators
The lawsuit named both the Calgary Board of Education and two former teachers accused of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse. Michael Gregory, who taught at John Ware School for over twenty years, faced 17 charges related to sexual assault and exploitation after multiple alumni came forward in 2021.
Following these accusations, authorities confirmed that Gregory’s death was unrelated to any criminal investigation. Another implicated teacher, Fred Archer-who worked at the school during the 1990s-had previously been convicted for abusing boys at a different institution where he was employed.
