Though, immediately afterward, an apparent engine malfunction-likely involving multiple engines-occurred during a critical burn designed to steer the booster back toward South Texas.

This malfunction caused erratic tumbling before it presumably exploded upon impact with water in the Gulf of Mexico. Fortunately, no injuries or damage to public property were reported despite this setback.
